Lapham Elementary School

Lapham School was founded in 1939 and is one of the oldest elementary schools In Madison.  Lapham is located on the eastside of Madison.  Lapham Elementary School has been, and continues to be an eastside landmark.

My visit to Lapham was quiet and pleasant. Murals and art created a stimulating learning environment that was quite evident.  I was greeted warmly by Principal Prozanski who gave me an extensive tour of Lapham Elementary School.

My first stop was kindergarten where it was story time.  The student of the day (each student gets a turn) selected his favorite book and had a special visitor (his mom) read the book to the class.

I then moved on to music class where the children were learning a lesson on drumming.  The class discussed the types of instruments used in music and had the opportunity to try each instrument.

After a wonderful visit, it was time to leave Lapham School but not before touring the Gym.  My tour was led by former Lapham student Dave Vander Meulen who attended the school approximately 70 years ago!
